About  me

Yan Jun Chin is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges dance, visual art, and digital media to explore the body as a vessel of memory, imagination, and transformation. Born in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, his practice is rooted in both traditional Chinese movement forms—such as lion dance and martial arts—and contemporary dance. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, graduating summa cum laude with an emphasis in choreography.

From 2019 to 2025, Chin was a soloist at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern in Germany, performing works by internationally renowned choreographers such as Alan Lucien Øyen, Daniele Proietto, Iván Pérez, and Roni Chadash. His stage work extends beyond dance into musical theater, opera, and experimental performance, reflecting a hybrid creative language.

In 2025, he performed in the exhibition - ''In Dialogue with Joseph Beuys'' by Marina Abramović and Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) in Museum Schloss Moyland on a long-durational performance that reimagined the drawings, interviews, and actions centered on dance and the body from the Joseph Beuys Archive.

As a choreographer and visual artist, Chin creates original work for both live and digital platforms. His initiative Chin-Chin Studio serves as a collaborative space for multidisciplinary projects in film, photography, and performance. Whether on stage or screen, his work seeks to dissolve boundaries between art forms and emphasizes cultural diversity, emotional depth, and the connection between body, mind, and spirit.

"Yan Jun Chin lets his hands flutter like birds in a playful solo, becomes an airplane and takes off."
