Commissioned by Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Prelude: Chad continues my Character Study series through the fractured lens of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Six dancers, all hidden behind identical monkey masks, embody distinct roles within a single system—host, caretaker, gatekeeper, protector, persecutor, and little. Though uniform in appearance, their movements diverge sharply, reflecting the shifting responsibilities and tensions of an inner world shaped by trauma. Created entirely over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, the piece asks how one mind can splinter into many, and how those selves negotiate space, conflict, and survival.
